Tutoring Services and Experience
I have been an ESL teacher and private tutor for six years and have developed great relationships with my students. I was a tutor for English Maniac and Expert Tutors in Toronto during my MFA, teaching English, Math and Science. In my Teaching Assistantship at York, I taught university students a second-year Sociology course. I was also involved in the Holocaust program, "Learning from the Past, Teaching for the Future", which dealt with teaching and discussing difficult subjects with students. In Vancouver, I enjoyed teaching Business English and ESL at Britannia College. I was also employed at a teaching/tutoring service (BCOU) for Chemistry, Math and English (university level). Previously, I lived in Macedonia and worked at two human rights organizations as a fund-raiser and capacity builder, which involved preparing grant applications and giving presentations. In Bulgaria, I was an intern for Inter Ethnic Initiative for Human Rights designing their website and researching Roma rights. Living in foreign countries has put me in the unique position of understanding the difficulty of learning a new language; thus, giving me the ability to empathize with my ESL students.
