EDUCATION

My doctorate was in philosophy, focusing especially on contemporary French and European thought. I studied at Fordham University in New York City and did a year of research at the Sorbonne (Paris IV), as well as at Södertörns Högskola in Stockholm, Sweden.

—PhD, Philosophy (Fordham University)
—MPhil (Fordham University)
—MA (University of Alberta)
—BA (University of Alberta)

4.0/4.0 GPA on all university course work: PhD, MPhil, MA, and BA.

Selected fellowships and prizes:

—Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowship (2012-2015)
—Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada (SSHRC) Graduate Scholarship (2009)
—Honors Medal in Philosophy (2009)

I have also won 7 or 8 other prizes, fellowships and essay competitions.

I have published three articles in top philosophy journals and have a book manuscript under review.

EXPERIENCE

I am passionate about education and making learning accessible to others. I think that with a good teacher most things can be explained in terms that any student can understand. I'd be excited to help you with whatever projects you're working on!

I have taught philosophy at the university undergraduate level for several years; and I have extensive experience teaching writing composition. I can help you develop successful study habits and writing strategies for your course work and essay assignments.

I also have experience tutoring for the GRE exam. (I received a perfect score (6/6) on the writing portion. My Verbal and Quantitative scores were in the 92nd and 96th percentile, respectively.)

I also have extensive experience with graduate school application statements, article abstracts, and successful grant applications.

I am eager to help students succeed in any humanities/social sciences courses focused on reading and writing, from high school and Cégep to university work.

I can help with SATs, GREs, other entrance exams, as well as fellowship grant applications, statements of purpose, and other documents that require organized and clear prose.

I am also available to help edit articles, to help translate from French to English, and I can help with course content in philosophy courses.

HOBBIES

Aside from my philosophical and academic interests, I play guitar and love rock music. During my BA I taught guitar lessons at Axe Music in Edmonton, Alberta.

I love puns and have a good sense of humour; I enjoy teaching and tutoring and making learning something engaging. I like the stories in the history of philosophy that show the idiosyncrasies and peculiar habits of all the philosophers.
