Tutoring Services and Experience
I am a TESL Canada-certified, native English-speaking English Second Language (ESL) instructor in Toronto. Prior to earning my TESL certification, I majored in English at the University of Toronto and graduated from the institution with a Bachelor of Arts. For the past 8 years, I have taught Grammar, Pronunciation, Writing and Communication at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. For the past 5 years, I have also been teaching academic English in a distinguished English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program for students wishing to pursue studies at North American post-secondary institutions.
In addition to my classroom work, tutoring, both individuals and groups, has been a constant and fundamental element of my career since its beginnings. I have privately tutored learners of various backgrounds, ages and levels for the past 10 years. Tutoring has helped me realize that my passion for the English language begins at the linguistic level – I love how English sounds, reads, writes and, essentially, works. Through tutoring, I am given the opportunity to help make English “work” for others, all the while satisfying my desire to intimately communicate in a way that inspires them to be more skilled versions of themselves.

In addition to being detail-oriented, patient, flexible and friendly, I am a proponent of the Socratic or communicative method of teaching. As a result, I generally take a more learner-centered approach to my tutelage. This strategy allows learners to have more control of what skills they want to learn, focus on, improve and master at any given pace. For those who prefer instruction that is more tutor-oriented, I devise individualized lesson plans based on my careful assessment of learners’ wants, needs and objectives. As a teacher of academic English, I can provide help with essay/report writing, seminar leadership and presenting among other skills necessary in the college or university classroom as well as the professional setting. I am available on Saturdays and Sundays, so learners can construct their own study schedules at their convenience and work with me for a competitive rate at locations of their choice within the city.

It does not matter if you just want someone to practice your speaking with or if you are a company CEO who needs help writing formal business letters. If you are looking to improve your English in a dramatic way as well as gain a lasting appreciation for the language, I am the tutor for you.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you. I wish you the best in all your English-learning endeavors!
