Richard Gradie has twenty years’ experience as an English/ESL/writing tutor. For ten years, he was a high school teacher, responsible for all levels of the academic curriculum, including creative writing. As Head of English, he co-authored The Resource Guide for Senior Level Reading and Essay Writing for the York Region school board. He has a BA in English from Warwick University (UK), a B.Ed (English/drama) from Queen’s University, and additional teaching diplomas in ESL (UBC), honours English specialty (University of Toronto), and special education (York University). As the author of over fifty resource guides for academic English studies, including The Writing Skills Workbook and two volumes of 1200 Words You Need to Know, he continues to publish his well-received Gradie Guides series through his own company, PIP Publishing. Experienced in all levels from elementary school to graduate school, Richard offers practical, results-oriented lessons designed to help students build their skills and increase their confidence in English through essay writing, vocabulary development, and grammar. He specializes in exam preparation, including SAT, PSAT, SSAT, ACT, TOEFL, LPI, IELTS, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, AP, IB and BC provincials. Richard has also demonstrated considerable success in preparing students for university entrance, helping them win admission to top American colleges.
