ACHIEVEMENTS:
Subjects - Taught English, math, history, geography, computers, social studies, drama, art, and music. Twice given highest ‘exemplary’ rating in teacher performance appraisals.
Technology - Won York Region Board technology award and presented at the YRDSB Technology Fair (2002). Twice awarded Grassroots grants of $600 for student-created interconnected history web sites. Presented at Educational Computing Organization of Ontario conference (2001). Created many internet student worksheets which are posted on YRDSB’s www.linktolearning.com. Established three systems of school-home communication utilizing technology. Created and maintained Vellore Woods P.S. web site, and classroom web site. Solicited corporate donations of over 130 computers. Maintained classroom computer lab of 11 donated computers.
Literacy - Organized after-school literacy program for boys at risk. Gave evening presentations to parents on children’s internet use, plagiarism, and literacy. Worked with special education teacher to give lunch time remedial sessions for low readers using the Reading Academy computer program. Paired intermediate and primary classes for reading, computing, and writing personalized children’s books.
Extra-curricular - Started Vellore Woods Character Committee and launched many character initiatives in the school. Ran Student Council (1990-2002), Computer Club, Character Club, Yearbook Club, and Chess Club; coached the ThinkBowl team - prizes won in 2001, 2002, 2004. Member of YRDSB Stephen Lewis HIV/AIDS Committee. Organized two whole school multi-cultural days. Invited many aboriginal presenters to both schools.
Other - Assisted with prize-winning drama club at Fenelon Falls S.S. In Botswana, supervised student teachers and volunteered at an afternoon remedial school. Started a school library with donations of books from Canada and the local community.

EDUCATION:
Specialist, Computers in the Classroom (2001); completed all YRDSB computer courses (17).
B. ed. (1987) History and English, University of Toronto (FEUT). A average.
M.A. (1985) History, Carleton University. A- average. Assisted professor with undergraduate course, marked student papers. Original thesis research undertaken in France.
B.A. Honours (1983) History and English, University of Toronto. Awarded H.M. Brown prize ($500) for history. Graduated ‘with distinction’.
